Weiss ST 1000 Dust Test Chamber

Dust Test Chambers

Dust tests are mainly performed to test functioning of electronic components under extreme environmental conditions. Various standards specify the test duration and composition of dust used.

The standard SAE J 575 is performed with three to five kilogrammes of unburnt Portland cement (according to ASTM C 150-77). Portland cement is especially characterised by its fine grain size.

The dust is filled in the funnel below the test space. The formation of dust within the test space is effected by compressed air injection through four special nozzles. The dust is blown and swirled in upper test space by intensive air movement. The pulse time for this action is two to 15 seconds with a brake of 15 minutes between the single impulses.

  • The test cabinet is of modular design and ready to be installed
  • Designed to be used under extreme conditions
  • Independent of design and condition of the test specimen, a constant dust density is reached due to special high-capacity compressed air nozzles, which leads to reliable test results
  • The unit mainly consists of the cubic test chamber with dust funnel fitted below the base
  • Test chamber housing made of sandwich panels
  • Acrylic glass door with with a window wiper fitted to the front of the test chamber
  • Special circumferential rubber seals for optimum sealing of the test chamber
  • Galvanised steel shelf located above the funnel on which the specimens are placed
  • Replaceable exhaust air filter mounted in the machine compartment of the test chamber
  • Electrical section installed in the switch cabinet and fitted to the test chamber side wall
  • Switch cabinet connection to power supply via plug sock and wired in accordance with VDE regulations
  • Manufactured in Germany

Dust formation inside the test chamber is achieved by blowing in compressed air through special nozzles. The fine cement dust is blown into the upper test space by intensive air movement. The depositing fine dust particles are collected in the funnel and returned to the dust chamber. The dust is kept dry by a heating device fixed to the floor. The compressed air in the test chamber is passed to the outside through the replaceable exhaust air filter. A built-in pressure reducer with oil and water separator serves for fine adjustment of pressure in front of the nozzle. The solenoid valve installed in the compressed air supply pipe is actuated by the control system, i.e. it opens or closes according to the pre-set times of the test cycle.
